im 15 and plan on taking brazilian jujitsu this summer.
how hard is it to learn and master the techniques?
how long will it take?|||It%26#039;s very hard.
The techniques themselves are not that bad--you just have to practice a lot. Problem is: there are lots of techniques. Just check out all the books in the bookstore. I took it for less than a year and there are tons of techniques I never heard of in the grappling magazines, books, online, etc.
Also there is a lot of body work. You need to be in good shape, strong, flexible, able to roll and fall well, excellent cardiovascular conditioning.
There is a reason why BJJ is known for few black belts compared to other martial arts. It takes a real long time to master. The techniques are designed for use against bigger opponents but that%26#039;s really only if they don%26#039;t know BJJ. In class( and competitions) your partners are also doing BJJ so skill level and body type/conditioning do matter. I got injured a few times---nothing serious--but that%26#039;s something that will happen in any martial art, more so in grappling arts--look at wrestling--because people think you can go all out without serious injury compared to karate for instance. Striking arts either use gloves or pads or do not usually go all out--non contact or minimal contact.
If you try it and you like it, just keep practicing and you%26#039;ll get better every week. Try to enjoy learning more than attempting mastery.|||BJJ requires commitment, and a postive attitude. You cant go in dwelling on how hard it is, cause thatll just make it harder. Once you understand the principle of leverage, get good conditioning and build determination it wont be so hard. Just focus, do your best and youll get theh ang of it before you know it|||It varies from person to person. It%26#039;s not hard for me. You use very little energy and it%26#039;s a very soft art. The only time it will hurt any is if you get caught in a technique. Then, thanks to all of the stupids rules, you can tap out.|||My son has been training in this awesome style for the last six months. He loves it.
How long it takes to master is all dependent on you. My son trains almost everyday saving Sunday as a rest day. When you first start out you will be taking more days off to recuperate. Don%26#039;t practice if you are sore. You won%26#039;t perform well. The more you do it, the more days you can practice.
So go slow in the beginning.|||It%26#039;s a lot of fun. How long it takes depends on a number of variables, but you%26#039;ll probably learn the basics kind of quickly. However, it%26#039;s a very technique-rich system. To %26quot;master%26quot; it, like any martial art, takes a lifetime.|||It%26#039;s pretty easy. 90% of the techniques are designed for a smaller person to be able to use against a larger stronger person (with the proper skill). Once you achieve a dominant position you can control the pace.|||As difficult or as easy as YOU want it to be.|||when ur done you%26#039;ll probably have half ur joints dislocated. but its one of the best fighting styles.
