Do all the Japanese have a black belt in an martial art ( Aikido,judo,jujitsu, kung-fu, taekowendo,etc...) ?

What is the percentage of people who have a black belt ? 50% ? 75 % ? How much ?|||Basically anyone you would ever meet in Japan does have a black belt in a martial art.

That%26#039;s because it%26#039;s mandatory for graduation from jr. high school. If you want to go to sr. high school, you just have to do it. Not that it%26#039;s hard or anything.

Most kids just do judo. It%26#039;s light. You memorize your procedures, then you%26#039;re almost guaranteed to get your black belt. For the sporty kids though, they go for karate, aikido, and sometimes even ninjutsu (particularly in the %26quot;Chubu%26quot; area of Japan).

As you can easily see with English education in Japan, even the slow kids are kept from failing anything. It%26#039;s almost impossible to fail a school subject the way it is in the West. If you%26#039;re a poor student in Grade 9 English, you just become a poor one in Grade 10 English. You get pushed along like a cow, to the dismay of many teaching assistants.

Are you going to be smacked to the ground in Tokyo for saying the wrong thing? No. Does everyone in Japan have a blackbelt? Basically... Yes.|||I hope you didn%26#039;t take that seriously! Report Abuse
|||Very few, but judo is taught in phys ed like football is in other places.|||LOL. No, and the percentage of black belts are small but I%26#039;ve noticed that a bit of police have black belts in at least one martial art.|||All Japanese start from white belt.

kung-fu is Chinese martial art, taekwondo is Korean.|||there are people out here that instinctively know how to fight in Japan. With the right amount of training, these people can hone their skills to great levels and a shorter amount of time. But you have to remember that, although in the West you consider a black belt to be an %26quot;expert%26quot;, in Japan for us a black belt is someone who has mastered the basic form, and is now ready to begin really learning. Hence the term for a first degree blackbelt - Sho-dan = %26quot;First step/level%26quot;

it is fair to say these are simplistically correct in emphasis. If your seeking a more penetrating Japanese cultural experience I need to know more about you. however i can not tell you the exact number. let me say i have .|||You%26#039;ve got to be f***ing kidding me...
