Should Jujitsu, Judo and other grapplers study freestyle or high school wrestling techniques?

It seems that alot of high school style wrestling could be taken and used in Jujitsu and Judo competition. Do BJJ and Judo guys take any of the techniques used in wrestling and apply it to grappling? I know according to Eddie Bravo he modified a couple of the high school wrestling techniques to BJJ. Shouldn%26#039;t all grapplers study different styles including wrestling and figure out what could be applied to their art? It does seem like a lot of adaptation must go on in Judo or BJJ in the US since many grapplers wrestled in high school. maybe I%26#039;m wrong. Have you all found techniques that came from high school wrestling when you were doing Judo or Jujitsu?|||For starters JuJitsu hs been around since the Samarai, who created it as a hand to had combat alternative to their swords. Judo was only created in 1882. So easy on the hystory of who was doing what when. And Pankration is the oldest form of fighting.

I trained in Judo from age 4 until I was 15 then I took time off through highschool and college. During that time I wrestled for about 5 years. When I cam back to Judo I found that most of what I did on the ground looked sloppy. A cross between a wrestling turn over ending in an arm lock. And on my feet I felt awkword wanting to do belly to elly or single leg take downs.

Wrestling is not good when you want to learn Judo or JuJitsu. However going into wrestling from years of Judo. Made it very easy to learn wrestling and win often.

So yes you can apply wrestling techniques to Judo or JuJitsu but then you won%26#039;t be doing Judo or JuJitsu you will be wrestling.

So then what would be the point of learning eitherone if all you want to do is wrestle. I recently had a training session with 4 former world and olympic Judo fighters. All agreed that so many fighters now are only going into competiton and going for single or double leg take downs and avoiding real Judo grappling techniques. All wrestling can do for Arts like Judo or JuJitsu is destroy the techniques and style of it. As too many fighters will take the easy way out rather than learning the art.

13 years of Judo

5 years of grecco roman/freestyle wrestling|||you can never do to much cross training.|||I am currently a high school wrestler going to state in three days.

I do believe that studying high school wrestling techniques will benefit the grapplers significantly.

School wrestling gives an excellent basics for grappling and can be modified to fit the grapplers need.

However, even in wrestling, you tend to use certain moves a lot and shape it the way you use it effectively. So there are a lot of different variations of moves in wrestling.|||The more techniques you study the more techniques you%26#039;ll know. Like building a house. You need different tools and every tool you buy you%26#039;ll use in some way. Sometimes one tool is not right for the job though but the more you have the better off you are buliding what you want to perfection. There is also the chance of deveolping bad habits such as reverting to Jujitsu or Judo when wrestling and going to your back or reverting to wrestling when doing Jujitsu and getting on all fours. But thas what its all about. Knowing what tool to use for the job. Except instead of craming a hammer into a philips head screw you might get choked out.|||Its the other way round. Wrestlers use a lot of techniques from Martial arts. These oriental arts have been in existence and use long before Westerners developed wrestling|||in my opinion, you should keep training in Judo or Juijitsu, or whatever you are taking

Martial arts are to be kept pure those who say they teach a mixed martial art are lyers. they canot teach a mixed art, because they themselves have created an art. however, the originals should be kept pure.

thank you for hearing me.|||As some one who has trained in both Wreslting and Sambo i woluld say yes. however while making the transition from wreslting to mma there was one very big challange you must over come. In wreslting you always give your opponent your back when on the mat in a down position and never do you put your back on the mat. Im mma it is the complete oppisite. most wreslters will probally say the same thing. but once you overcome this wreslting takedowns work execelent in all mma.

however i do not know if they would apply to judo, but i have never really followed judo that close so i am not to sure with the scoring.
