What's a better ground fighting style for MMA Wrestling, or Brazillian Jujitsu?

wrestling is great because you learn great sprawling and reaping techniques... and wrestling really concentrates on keeping your opponent pinned to the floor..

bjj is great because you work both ends of the wire.. you work on guard and mount, you learn how to evade submissions and you learn how to execute submissions..

having elements of both in your arsenal can be very beneficial.. you do find places now that teach mma ground fighting, which incorporate both wrestling and bjj techniques and exercises..

but if i%26#039;d have to pick one or the other for mma, i%26#039;d have to go with bjj.. because if you%26#039;re just learning straight colleagic wrestling you%26#039;re missing a huge piece of the mma puzzle, which is submissions and fighting from the guard.. these two tools have become essential in mma, if you can%26#039;t do either you won%26#039;t go far in todays mma circuits..

~*smilez*~|||BJJ.you%26#039;ll also learn all other syles are crap and all other martial artists know nothing. And no thats not my opinion.|||The only champion in UFC or Pride with a wrestling base is Matt Hughes. All of the other champs are Muy Thai/BJJ/Sambo hybrids. Chuck has a wrestling background, but when was the last time he even needed to use it? The simple fact is that once a fight goes to the ground, it will end faster and with a lesser amount of energy spent using jiu jitsu techniques.|||Good answers so far. I think a pure-BJJ guy could beat a pure-wrestler more often on the ground due to submissions, but true MMA fighters should know all aspects of grappling, including wrestling techniques, positions and submissions. If one only knows sport wrestling moves, what are you going to do when someone pulls guard and catches you in a triangle choke when you try to pass it, or if they do a sweep and knee bar you? (eg. Kevin Randleman vs Mauricio Rua) Or if you know submissions but can%26#039;t establish dominant positions first by wrestling, you could get mounted and overwhelmed by punches without a chance of doing submissions (eg. Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes).|||are you kidding me... BJJ EASY!!!!

Just look at that Matt kid from the ultimate fighter. He is an AMAZING wrestler and no one can beat him at that on the show, but submissions? he knows nothing... so unless you are planning on pinning your would be attacker... BJJ learns both, and how to finish them!|||bjj for submissions

wrestling if you want to dip your opponent on his head and then finish him off

your pick|||you need both to succeed... but good wrestlers can keep a guy on the ground forever.
