Karate or JuJitsu; Which is better?

I%26#039;m taking JuJitsu now, but which one is better?|||No art is better an any other.

It depends how you personally can adapt to and implement it and yes as others have said a good instructor/coach is worth their weight in gold.

Good luck whichever you decide.

Best wishes :)***|||They%26#039;re both pretty awesome. but because I do Karate i%26#039;ve got to say that. JuJitsu, I don%26#039;t know, it juts doesn%26#039;t seem particularly practical. The rolls and break-falls you earn are pretty good but some of the moves would be pretty useless against some guy trying to rugby tackle you or kick you in the shins with hobnail boots.

Whereas Karate you learn to kick and punch which are more useful (in my opinion) in self-defense etc.

Overall, i%26#039;d say JuJitsu looked more fun to train in and was more well-rounded but Karate is easier to utilize and probably more effective. To do both would be the best though :P.|||By Jujitsu, I assume you%26#039;re talking about traditional Japanese JuJitsu and not Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? If you mean BJJ, it is far more effective as a self defense style than Karate. In fact I%26#039;d recommend either form of Ju Jitsu over Karate. The training itself can prepare you more for a real confrontation because you can spar as hard as u like with little fear of injury. As long as u have good training partners.|||Better how? A better question is this is one of the instructors a better instructor than the other? Does one have a lot more experience and knowledge than the other?

Without knowing more about both instructors, I can only say that if your Jujitsu instructor is good, just stay there. Styles are not superior or inferior to each other. Instructors are a different matter.|||I am about to start taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and from what i know it is more effective than Japanese Jiu Jitsu and it shows because it is more popular. Also watch UFC Classics at least UFC 2 and watch Royce Gracie (pronounced hoyce) who only used his skills in BJJ to beat huge guys i think in UFC 1 he beat KEN SHAMROCK who is a f u c k i n g giant and ROyce is 6%26#039;1 170lbs and does not look all ripped and muscular but more like an average joe look so i recommend BJJ even though it is mostly ground work you learn takedowns so you don%26#039;t have to punch and you learn how to defend yourself from weapons|||however i get graded on this...here%26#039;s my 2cents:

you cannot really say one is %26quot;better than the other%26quot;.

karate has skill sets that are effective if you are in that type of situation.

Jujitsu has skill sets that are effective if you are in that type of situation.

you have to keep an open mind when it comes to the arts. because you can%26#039;t tell me that every fight or self-defense situation you will be in, jujitsu is your total answer. if you encounter a knife for example. . .you wouldn%26#039;t pull guard...you%26#039;re dead meat. so i guess what is your situation on this question?|||It boils down to which one you like more and which one has a better instructor. If you are thinking about doing karate go check out some schools and see if you like it. Even if the karate school is better and you do not like it or the instructor and you do not %26quot;click%26quot; then Jujitsu is better for you.

Good Luck :)|||Alright, a lot of idiot answers already so ill put my opinion in..... I think when choosing an art you need to look at where you are most comfortable, what you are taking the Martial Art for (stay in shape, self defense, competition, etc). Now a good majority of fights do end up on the ground if they go long enough (nighthawk doesnt have a clue apparently either). Now i would recommend if you are going to take a jiujitsu to take brazillian...mainly cause there are more schools around, it is geared more towards a self defense style, and also teaches smaller people ( im assuming your female from your avatar??) how to use their body most effectivly. I have taken both karate and BJJ and favor BJJ simply because i was a wrestler and feel most comfortable being on the mat or the ground(id rather try not getting punched in the face if i can avoid it)...the best thing to do this is look for the art that you feel most comfortable doing and suits your goals....and there isnt any harm in trying them both out for a period of time....some gyms will have various arts under one roof|||Cant%26#039; compare. I can%26#039;t do BJJ very well yet I have KOed a lot of BJJ practitioners. It isn%26#039;t about the art, it%26#039;s about the person. An art is supposed to fit a person.. if all people were the same then there could be one are, but all people are different so different arts are better for different people.

No comparing. If someone says that one art is better than another then they need to spend more time with real martial artists. Martial arts is NOT about comparing oneself to others, so how can you compare your own art to another%26#039;s? Humility and respect. I have a black belt, I am not better than a white belt. We are just in different areas in our own training. I can help the white belt out as is my responsibility because i have experience.

A martial art takes months to get, years to understand, and a lifetime to master.|||people like austin b, above me, know very little about martial arts.

if he did he would not have said that.

karate and jujitsu are both excellent arts, under a good teach.

they both consist of grappling as well as striking techniques.

most of the bjj dopes on here will tell you some bs about 90% of fights going to the ground, any one that has been in a fight knows that few end up there.

a good fighter will stay on his feet and throw his opponent down on the ground. anyone that has been in a real fight will tell you that. unlike these wannabe%26#039;s who have never been in a fight.

all martial arts have there advantages there in no style better then another|||I%26#039;m practice taekwondo

sorry JIUJITSU is better (brazilian)

jiujitsu traditional japanese and karate???

karate toshinkai is better.

cheers|||Karate or JuJitsu? Those are two different kinds of arts. You can%26#039;t really compare ground fighting with stand up....|||BJJ is much better. Anyone can throw punches and kicks, if you don%26#039;t have experience on the ground, you screwed.
