Whats the difference between jujitsu and Brazilian jujitsu?

The most important factor that differentiates Brazilian Jiu-jitsu from Judo and Japanese Jujutsu is that BJJ places a decided emphasis on ground fighting. While Japanese Jujutsu and Judo do incorporate training in ground fighting (newaza), with some schools favoring more ground techniques than others, few Japanese schools put as much emphasis on ground techniques as BJJ. Some, if not the majority, of BJJ schools overlook most throwing techniques entirely.|||Brazillian jujitsu focuses more on ground fighting.|||j|||I did Jiujitsu for several years in the Butokukai, and the first BJJ class I work out with kicked my *** like college wrestling with all the mat work as opposed to all the throws and takedowns. Japanese Jujitsu was a workout. BJJ was trial by fire ***-kickin. It%26#039;s not something you can do without great conditioning unless you%26#039;d like a heart attack.|||location lol.|||JJJ is about 1/3 striking, 1/3 take downs, and 1/3 ground work.

BJJ is a bout 1/5 striking, 1/5 take downs, and 3/5 ground work.

Percentages may very between schools and instructors.
