On average how long does it take to reach black belt level in tha art of aikido with prior jujitsu experience?

martial arts question|||Who can say? How many hours do you train a week? At least two years if you train 4-5 hours a week.|||Your not gonna get bumped up faster just cause you have more experience, it wouldnt be far to everyone else... If that school you go to is smart they will treat you like everyone else, no special treatment. Just stick it out and work your way up like everyone else. Report Abuse
|||Could be shorter depending on how well you grasp the concepts. But not by a lot. Reason I say is instructors usually want students to study a certain number of hours before taking the exam and advancing to the next level. Even though Aikido is rooted in an older form of jiujitsu called Aikijutsu, it%26#039;s movements are different and do require some dedication. Understanding Jiujitsu%26#039;s principles of leverage, locking and momentum is helpful to understanding Aikido%26#039;s techniques and could give you a better edge when it comes to accelerating in your training.|||I%26#039;ve studied Aikido and AikiJujitsu, and I still have not received a black belt. Certainly they are similar arts and knowing Jujitsu will help in your understanding, but these arts have alot to learn.

It takes a long time to learn the intricacies of these arts. You shouldn%26#039;t be concerned with belt rank and the amount of time it takes to get there, you should be focused on learning technique and improving yourself.|||In the organization that I belong to, it take anywhere from 5-8 years to earn a Dan rank - assuming 4-6 hours a week of training. There are some who have been there 8 years and longer and are still low level kyu ranks due to their schedule (only training 2 hours a week at best).

I do not know how previous Ju Jutsu experience would translate, or how it would assist you in getting rank faster. We have a guy in our class who just moved from PA where he was a shodan in another style of Aikido. Here, he is a white belt - admittedly a white belt with outstanding ukemi skills - but from the perspective of having the knowledge of our style, he is still a white belt. He seems pretty happy with it :-)|||my old instructor got his black belts in both aikido and jiu jitsu in a lil under 5 years however , he went every day in the morning and night during school, and almost 6-8 hours a day during the summer, time, so the more time u put in, and the faster ur learn the faster u get ur belt,

or u can just order a black belt online for like $10, whatever u want to do , getting the belt is not problem getting the experience and the techniques tends to be a bit harder|||however long it takes your sensei to grade you that far.

jujitsu may help in unerstanding techniques.|||a long time uddy alot of things to learn
