Brazilian Jujitsu, MMA, and Muy Thai?

I was wondering if it%26#039;s too late for me to start learning one of these fighting styles. I%26#039;m almost 20 and have no previous fighting experience. I%26#039;m not planning on competing or anything, just wanted a new workout and some self defense.

Thanks|||Dude, your suppost to be in the best shape of your life in your early 20s, even if you are not in good shape you are at a good enough age where you can do any and I mean ANY!! martial arts you want. stop thinking and give it a shot, and if you do not like a certain style of martial arts try another (most gyms give you a 1-2 free lessons just to see if you like it or not)|||You%26#039;re technically a teenager and you think it%26#039;s %26quot;too late%26quot; to start something athletic in your life, even though you don%26#039;t even plan to compete? It%26#039;s one thing if we%26#039;re talking about reaching the top tiers of MMA, but just for workout and self defense? That%26#039;s like asking if it%26#039;s too late for anyone to start jogging or lifting weights for exercise -- if the point of doing BJJ was to win the ADCC championships or become the UFC champ, then the point of running would be to break the 100m record. If you had the means, go learn all three right now, seriously! (And get back to us when you win some matches)|||Find a MMA instructor that does not teach katas (forms). If you have a Kenpo school near you, see if the instructor will teach you the physical fitness and self defense without the katas. I would teach a new student even if they were 70 years old and in good physical condition!|||20 is definately not too old. There are professional fighters that didn%26#039;t start training until there were in their early 20%26#039;s. I%26#039;m almost 24 and i just started at an MMA school doing grappling and kickboxing with no previous martial arts training, I have only played sports. Obviously my technique is not as good as someone who has been involved in martial arts or boxing since they were younger, but that%26#039;s why you%26#039;re there to learn. If you don%26#039;t plan to fight and just want a solid, fun workout, BJJ and Muy Thai are a great way. Grappling is an intense workout and is a good basis for self defense.|||heck no its not too late. even for competition you%26#039;re still pretty young....most people i know even if they did do martial arts as a kid they do seriously start training till 18 maybe maybe 16.

anyways at my gym i have 2 friends that just started training a few months ago ones 27 the other 30 and they are looking into fighting in golden gloves in feb and coach think they have a good shot

and since you%26#039;re just looking for a workout and self defense you should have nothing to worry about. once you start and if you really start likely it i think you might change your mind and wanna do a few tournaments. i was the same way with muay thai just wanted to learn it for self defense but i have a competive natural so i%26#039;ll jump into the ring a few times nothing like a career though just a lil fun here and there|||If you are dead, it is too late for you to learn something new. I started TKD at the age of 41. I feel better now than when I was twenty. Not dead yet, still learning!|||Brazilian Jujitsu.|||No. it%26#039;s not too late by any means.|||twenty is an awesome age to start!
