Also here is a form that could be helpful for you as well for your questions

and maybe this might be some help too

They teach you to fight from any position and you can submit an opponent while standing, but it is easier on the ground. So the first thing you learn is the takedown. You learn a handful of throws, a couple submission takedowns, some quick kicking takedowns and some that are for use against trained wrestlers/Judo.

Yes, most BJJ schools use a Karate or Judo style gi.|||In my BJJ class, we cross train with judo players close to tournament time due to starting from stand up. Traditional BJJ is with a gi on, but we do no gi alot to change things or when an MMA event is coming and some of the guys are training for the fight. My advice is that if you like grappling, submissions, then BJJ could be what you want. You can always cross train in something like judo for throws and takedowns. Good luck...see you on the mat!|||They all teach takedowns to some degree, but some schools do more than others. In competition, you always start standing up, so if your takedowns or takedown defense is weak, you%26#039;ll start off in a bad position. But that said, BJJ focuses on ground fighting.

If you%26#039;re looking to learn strictly takedowns, consider judo. Awesome takedowns and throws. Similar art with a different emphasis. Judo has some ground fighting (how much again depends upon the school) but has much more standup grappling/takedowns.

BJJ can also be gi or no-gi. More and more tournaments are incorporating no-gi divisions. Again, the amount of time spent no-gi depends upon the school.

Good luck.
