I want to start jujitsu, do you have any advice?

What kind of jujitsu are u taking buddy?

Brazillian or japanese?

For brazillian heres some advice:

Never think that you should always go to the ground in a real fight.

Brazilian jujitsu is almost all groundfighting, and although brazilian jj is probably the best groundfighting martial art, they tend to emphasize going to the ground too much.

so bottom line, THINK before going to the ground, its not always the best idea in street situations.

eg. take into account the number of people attacking you, if ur oponent has a weapon, whether you%26#039;re on a hard surface.

Learn throws! Brazillian jujitsu has throws, but they only have a few, which arent the most effective, and most dojos dont train on throws that much. so learn a few judo throws here and there, so you can actually take your oponent to the ground WITH FORCE, to use your BJJ.

Remember to always stretch before class, so you can be more limber and so thats theres less chance of geting hurt.

Protect your neck and back! If you dont, youre gona get choked easily.

And remember, always tap out whenever someone has you in a lock or choke and you start feeling discomfort. Dont try and be a tough guy and try and batttle through the choke or lock. Just tap, better than getting unconsious or breaking a limb =D

For japanese jujitsu:

learn your ukemi, or breakfalls! VERY crucial, so you know how to not get hurt when thrown.

remember always to apply kuzushi, or to break balance before any of the throws you attempt.

=}|||any jujitsu could be practical. there are 2 main types small circle and large circle. large circle you need room for.

the more important part is finding a good instructor. all because they have a black belt doesn%26#039;t mean they can teach or fight. this goes for any style.|||Alright Lovedoll, go to http://www.fight-site.com and read the Jiu Jitsu article it will give you a good understanding of what you%26#039;re getting into abd a few basic submissions.|||Brazilian? If it is practice the shrimping drills, it will help greatly with the hip movement you need while rolling.|||what ever you do when you are on the ground always stay on your back cause your opponent will get you easier for a tap out
