Is Gracie jujitsu effective in the street?

I think if you have multiple opponent and in the street and you would do those ground technique you will be kicked on and hammered on by multiple street fighters |||Mean Gene got it right - Gracie Jiu Jitsu isn%26#039;t just a ground art, it%26#039;s a self defense philosophy for unarmed combat that happens to work really well in one-on-one matches. One of the main ideas that they focus on is USING the grappling aspect to GET BACK UP! The situation you mention is exactly why you need to know how to stand back up. No martial art is going to give you a true advantage over multiple attackers - you have 2 arms and 2 legs - 3 attackers have 3 x as many options PLUS you can%26#039;t really focus on more than one at a time. The ones you are not focused on have a significantly increased chance of injuring you.

Look at it like this - attacker 1%26#039;s job is to control your left hand using his 2 hands and body. Attacker 2%26#039;s job is to control your right hand - you are at a disadvantage already. Through that control you are immobilized and your primary attack tools are marginalized, so attacker 3 is free to attack you with 2x as many tools as you have (all you have is legs) PLUS he has the element of mobility. There simply is no training that gives the single person an advantage over multiple assailants. Period.

So why not have some skill in every POTENTIAL stage of unarmed combat? Know how to strike. Know how to control a standing clinch. And know how to grapple. That way no matter what you have options and the ability to either stay where the fight is or transition to a more desirable stage - including standing back up and running away.

There are no other places a fight can go since humans can%26#039;t fly or breathe underwater. |||Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is effective in all aspects weather it%26#039;s 1 on 1 or multiple opponents. Although no system is fully reliable against multiple opponents, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu gives students the best possible chance when facing an attack by one or more opponents. The overwhelming superiority demonstrated by Royce Gracie in the Ultimate Fighting Championship created a misconception, Jiu-Jitsu is a complete fighting system and not an exclusively ground grappling art. A Traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioner learns strikes, which include techniques with the elbows, hands, feet, head, and knees. Students learn that the optimum self-defense strategy is to maintain a safe distance from the attacker. This battle tested method teaches defenses against the most common street attacks, the majority standing, which quickly neutralize aggressors. The practice of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu clarifies a long lasting myth, real life fights are not like scenes from Martial Arts movies where protagonists KO dozens of %26quot;bad guys%26quot; one after the other. Consequently, a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioner possesses the most realistic chances of safely overcoming a multiple opponents attack.

|||what happens if you get thrown on the ground and you do not know how to move on the ground. do not know how to get a hold of a leg to stand back up. what if you get a hold of one of those legs that was not kicking and heel hook it and take one of your opponents out of the fight. or an arm that is grabbing your shirt. if you do not know how to defend your self on the ground and you get put there because three guys want to jump you the will literally jump you. one guy is probably going to come up from behind you jump on your back and drag you down while they are hammering you. they will not stand in front of you and say %26quot;hey were going to jump you, defend your self. also what if you are not jumped but attacked by one wrestler who manages to get a hold of you in a one on one fight. is it not better to be prepared than not. so train in both striking and grappling like sambo or judo or jujisu.

So what do you do if your attacked by multiple guys and wind up on the ground and all you have trained is Muay Thai?|||in that situation the person with grappling only or something similar, should use those skills to stay on their feet and leave asap, going to the ground and trying to submit 1 person while 3 others are head kicking and pulling you/holding you etc.

this is why more people are %26quot;mixing%26quot; it with striking styles in order to be more %26quot;well rounded%26quot;.

imo its best suited for competition. one on one fighting, and fighting with rules.|||Do you think you%26#039;re going to get in a fight and not get hit? Sometimes you just gotta grow a pair of big brass balls and take care of business. It%26#039;s best to know several martial arts consisting of stand up and grappling style so you can choose which one is best for your current situation. If you feel more comfortable standing up when you fight multiple people then stay standing... if you can. Why not learn a martial art that teaches you to fight multiple attackers? Like Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, Chung Do Kwan, Muay Thai, Hapkido, Aikido, or Maharlika Kuntaw?|||Your thinking about it all wrong. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is what you use when you get taken down and need to escape or finish. You definetly shouldn%26#039;t take someone down when you have a few guys attacking you. Its a self DEFENSE martial art. Combine Jits with muay thai and you%26#039;ll have a better chance. Keep the fight up until you get tackled then use your Jits.|||Too much talk going on .... check this out dude ----%26gt; http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9315/te... do the math and tell me yo. Looks like a winner to me, do your own research if you don%26#039;t believe the facts.
