Im thinking of doing jujitsu, but is it all just ground work?

i wanted to do it because in a fight at school i cant beat someone to a pulp, or id get expelled but id wanna be able to throw them to the ground and get ontop of the fight., is jujitsu all ground work? or mostly ground work cos i dont really want that|||If you are talking Japanese JJ than the emphasis (and the quality of training) can vary wildly.

Brazilian JJ will focus on groundwork. Probably at least 2/3rds of the training. Just how much time is spent on stand up/throws and take downs varies from about 1/3rd in the case of some instructors who have a judo background or a more MMA oriented class to more like 10%.

Either way you will usually have enough ability to takedown the average person, and once you get on the ground the sweeps and positional strategy you learn will be invaluable in getting on top of and controlling people. This control and the arsenal of locks and chokes will then give you the ability to control just how badly you want to hurt the other person.

That said, if your heart is really set on learning to throw somebody and get on top of them I would recommend joining the wrestling team or finding a judo school as they will place a higher emphasis on exactly those things.|||If you are talking Japanese (JuJutsu), then no, it%26#039;s not all ground work. It%26#039;s about 50/50.

If you%26#039;re talking Brazilian (JiuJitsu), then yes, it%26#039;s almost completely ground work.|||Bjj would be good cause you could let them get on top of you and then break there arm or something from under them or sweep them which will look like self defense. If you are talking about bjj and you don%26#039;t want somthing that mainly ground work head somewhere else|||No, Jiu Jitsu is a lot more than that.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, BJJ, on the other hand is all ground fighting. No strikes, though.|||Jiu jitsu has more than just ground work bud.

But BJJ like the previous guy said is mainly ground grappling.

Join muay thai so you%26#039;ll learn the stand up techniques, than go on to BJJ or jiu jitsu for ground game.|||If you want to beat somebody to a pulp, join the boxing team!|||nope. its not all ground work. there are stand up too.

and its fun chocking people. when you get them in a triangle or any chokes!

so go try it and have some fun!|||no its not that is just bjj

it focuses on wrist locks but so do a lot of other styles

u have to see what you like
