What is the difference between Judo and Jujitsu?

Judo an ancient art...?... lol...

It was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kanu. It is directly taken from JuJitsu or JuJutsu as it is properly pronounced in Japan, which was created by the Samarai in ancient Japan.

Judo was created because Jigoro Kano a Black belt in JuJutsu determined that although the techniques in JuJutsu were effective he found it lacking and overly aggressive. He found that JJ did not have efficient enough take downs and relied too much on what your attackers did. He also felt it was too aggressive in that it%26#039;s intentions were to forcefully harm your opponant rather than effectivly stop them and control them with the potential to still harm if need be. Judo teaches all of the same submission techniques JuJutsu does. And adds well over 40 throws to the mix. Judo has begun to lean towards the sporting aspect of it more, however the techniques tought in any dojo are still the same as they were in the past and Judo unlike Karate or TKD is Full contact fighting. JJ is fast becoming a sporting martial art now as well. Contrary to popular beleif JJ does not incorperate any strikes in it%26#039;s training. Although both Judo and JuJutsu share common Kata%26#039;s that do incorperate some leg kicks and head strikes. Known as Goshin Jutsu Kata.

In fact Jigoro Kanu took 15 of his best Judoka and matched them against his former JJ senseis best 15 at the Tokyo police games in the 1920s and the Judo fighters won 13 out of 15 times the other 2 being by close desission. Also Judo not JJ is used by many law enforcement and military orgs... Around the world including Japans police and military as well as Canada%26#039;s RCMP.

Additional: Aikido was also created from JJ but about 40 years after Judo was. Interestingly enough both Judo and Aikido came from the same style of JJ. Aki Ryu JuJutsu

13 years of training in Judo|||judo came from jujitsu, moves are taken from jujitsu and made judo.......Jigaro Kano|||Judo is more about throws and takedowns.

Jujitsu is more about submissions and wrestling|||Judo you grab people and use ur hips to use the other persons own force to thow him off balance, resulting in some cool looking throws. Its amazing how easily you can flip someone when you know what ur doing.

Jiu-Jitsu you tend to try and trip the person to the ground and then u try and grab a leg, arm, joint, or neck and twist or squeez untill the person goes unconcious, breaks something, or taps out.|||judo is a revised jujitsu (i think.. i take neither) theres plausibly more 2 it than that|||Judo focuses primarily on the standing game, where you try to throw your opponent to the mat. Jiujitsu primarily focuses on the ground game, where you try to submit your opponent. Both martial arts have elements of the other, since Judo came from Japanese Jiujitsu.|||Judo is a sport derived from Jujitsu which is a self defense technique. In Judo you are not supposed to hurt your opponent. It is not a violent sport. You can only get hurt by accident. In Jujitsu you learn to do more nasty things to your opponent because you prepare to react when attacked in real life situations.|||What are you being serious, judo not teaching chokes leg and arm bars, thats funny. Jujutsu is older, and focuses less on throws while in judo you fling them across a football feild.

in my dojo we beleive they should be learned togather along with some aikido and hapkido.

OH, and jujutsu has strikes and nerve locks and such.|||The big diference is simple...

Judo does not allow leg and ankle locks, only arm locks and chokes.

Where are you people coming from ? LOL|||jujitsu is hand to hand combat, life or death,

judo is a sport

if your at a bar and a guy starts a fight with you you%26#039;d want jujitsu

if you want to have a good competition you use judo|||Okay, Judo is the ancient japanese art of wrestling while jujitsu utilizes an opponent%26#039;s own strength against him in self-defense.

Jujitsu is more like steven seagal moves in under siege and his other movies, Judo is shown in the karate kid in some scenes when he throws his opponent over in fast wwe kind of but less exageratted moves.|||jujitsu is all about circles
