How dose Jujitsu differ from brazilan Jujitsu?

Ju Jitsu is the ancient martial art that was modified by Jigoro Kano in the late 19th century to become Judo. It was the ancient unarmed combat techniques used by the samurai.

Brazilian JiuJitsu is a modern martial art that is essentially a form of Judo that focuses primarily on the matwork component of Judo. It was developed by the Gracie family after they learned Judo from a Judo master from Japan.|||I believe the brazilians have a practical approach to the use of Jujitsu. I cannot see Japanese looking for fights. Judo is a very popular sport in Japan.|||[japanese]jujutsu is the art in which the samurais used in warfare using strikes(limited amount due to the enemy wearing armor), deadly throws, chokes, and joint locks.

brazilian or gracie jiujitsu is a modifcation of judo which specialized in ground fighting(gaining a dominate position, submissions and holds)

thats what it is short in sweet for more details check out

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bjj|||BJJ = Basically Just Judo

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is Japanese Judo the way Judo was taught in 1899-1900.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is simply Judo repackaged and recycled as something different, and it isn%26#039;t.

BJJ is Judo in a silly blue gi and clown patches. BJJ is a sport to win trophies in a ring in front of screaming ticket buying fans$$$$$$$$$$.

Kodokan Judo has punches, kicks, eye-gouges, and defense against sticks, guns, swords, and knifes, but all in Judo %26#039;kata%26#039;.

Japanese Jiu-jitsu contains wrist locks, joint locks, punching, kicking, and defense against multiple attacks, knives, guns, and swords. Japanese jiu-jitus is a complete system of self-defense.

http://www.hakkoryu.com|||traditional Japanese Jujitsu is closer to the combat art used by the Japanese Samurai during battle. The applications in Tradition JJ and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is very different.

Lets start first with the history.

First, there was Traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu, an art that was used when a Japanese Samurai had to engage in hand to hand combat with the opponent.

In order to make this lethal art into a sport, a Japanese JJ student by the name of Jigoro Kano invented and applied new techniques to create Traditional JJ into a sport-oriented martial art. This new art would have rules for competition and practice, where the goal is either to successfully throw or submit your opponent.

A Judo practicioner (Judoka) by the name of Count Koma, (Maeda) traveled to Brazil. A family by the name of Gracie was hospitable to him, and in return he taught the adolescents of the family Judo, telling his students that the art was Japanese Ju Jitsu.

After practice of the art of what was to the Gracies known as %26quot;Jiu Jitsu%26quot;, a member of the family, Helio Gracie, began to develop and modify the art to fit his small, frail body.

These modifications were so vast and different from the original art that was taught to them, It was a different art entirely. The Gracies called newly modified art %26quot;Gracie Jiu Jitsu%26quot;

Since The Gracie%26#039;s invented Jiu Jitsu, the Gracies argue that only they have the right to promote and authorize any rank made under the art.

To avoid such arguments, the art is now more commonly refered to as BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU.

So BJJ(GJJ) came from Judo, and Judo came from Traditional JJ

The applications made in traditional Japanese JJ is to disarm an opponent and successfully put the opponent out of comission in a lethal or non-lethal way.

Judo seems to emphasize on throwing your opponent with a certain degree of skill in order to win competition. Many self-defense techniques that are taught in JJJ are also taught in Judo.

BJJ concentrates moslty on ground techniques (mat work, newaza). Like Judo, the art relies heavily on hip-movement and positioning. except that in BJJ points are scored by advantagous positions made on the ground, and/or ability to sweep your opponent on to his/her back.|||JuJitsu originated in Japan. The only difference between the 2 is that Brazillian JuJitsu is practiced in Brazil.
